Creativity strategy?

Creative Momentum #04

Is it time to add creativity to your strategy?

I hope you’ve had a fab summer!☀️ We’ve been busy with some brilliant client projects and making the most of the school holidays. More on that further down.👇

This issue, we’re exploring how creativity can help you stand out, connect with the right people and find new ways to tackle your business challenges.

And if you’d like to bring some fresh thinking into your marketing, we’ve got something new for you at the end. 👀

I hope this one sparks a few ideas. 💡

What's caught our attention...

Can I have your attention, please?

The digital world is swamped. Content is everywhere. Trust is at an all time low and the algorithm is calling the shots. You know the story. Earning attention is becoming increasingly challenging.

The digital world is a disarray of AI content. We’re overloaded, and we don’t know who to trust.

For me, this is where things get interesting, because it means we have a problem to solve.

How about if we take things out of the digital realm? What can we do in the physical world to connect with our people?

And let’s have some fun with this. 🙌

Humour me. Forget the traditional flyer or business card for a minute. What could you create that gets noticed, builds a connection and gives someone a reason to remember you?

Here are a few prompts to get you thinking:

  • What could you put in the post? A handwritten letter? A thank-you card? Something useful? A beautiful little publication? Something completely unexpected (in a good way!)
  • What could you organise? An event, gathering, workshop or experience that brings the people you want to reach together. What could you do to make it feel special and worth showing up for
  • Have you got a talk coming up? How could you make it more engaging and memorable? Would bringing in storytelling help? How could you make it a little bit different.
  • What could you give people? Think about something that supports your brand and that people will actually want to take away, use or keep
  • Could you spark a little joy? It could be seasonal, celebratory or simply something unexpected that makes someone smile. A tiny gift can create a surprisingly strong connection.

What could you create in the real world that people will remember? 💡

A quick exercise

Now, let’s put it into practice

Choose one person or group of people you’d love to reach.

1. How do you want them to feel?

Curious? Valued? Excited? Understood? Inspired?

2. Now think beyond the screen.

Come up with five ways you could create that feeling in the physical world. See the ideas above if you need a little inspiration.

Think big, think small. Don’t worry about budget or practicality yet. Give yourself permission to explore the ideas first.

3. Which idea has the most potential?

Now ask: which one feels doable? How could you make this more relevant, interesting, personal or memorable?

A great idea can start with a small budget. Clever thinking is what makes it worth noticing.💡

What inspired us

Six weeks of curiosity, delivered through the post

Last summer, my friend and fellow Bristol designer Eleanor Bowie ran a lovely experiment called Curiosity Club.

She invited clients and people in her world to sign up for six weekly prompts, delivered through the post over the summer holidays.

Each one encouraged us to get away from our screens, head outside and explore our brands from a different perspective.

It gave Ellie a creative way to stay connected with her audience while giving them a real experience of how she thinks and works.

A great example of how a simple physical idea can deepen connection and make your approach memorable.

A final thought...

Real-world connection has the power to make us memorable.

There are so many ways to reach people when we think more creatively about how we connect, and look beyond the usual ways of doing things. Sometimes the smallest ideas leave the biggest impression.

hope you enjoyed the read and see you next time!
